I was given a kodak instamatic camera as a child and then, before I left home to go to university, my father gave me one of the most precious gifts ever - his original Pentax Spotmatic SLR camera. I have never looked back!
I spent many nights at university, not studying, but whiling away those otherwise unused hours engrossed in the magic of the darkroom, delighting in the process that never ceases to amaze when an image emerges on that piece of white paper floating in a developing tank. Technology has changed and the art of digital manipulation has replaced the raw magic of the darkroom process - but the delight in photography remains.
There have been moments when I was without camera. But what a joy it always is to pick one up again, to look through that tiny window (I rarely use the electronic view screen!), and to look at the world from a different perspective.
